We know from Brooks that when Beddome became pastor of the Bourton Church at Bourton he took up his residence at Lower Slaughter, in the house of Mr [Joshua] Head, where he was until 1749 and his marriage to Elizabeth Boswell. This cannot be the nonconformist Joshua Head as he died in 1719 but it may well be a relation, perhaps a grandson. We know there was a Joshua Head surgeon apothecary based in fashionable Cheltenham, the nearby spa town only 15 miles away. We know too that this Joshua Head's widow, Elizabeth, is buried in Gloucester Cathedral. Elizabeth Head (nee Pyrke) 1734-1804 was the daughter of Robert Pyrke, vicar of Heath, Derbyshire. She married Joshua Head, then of Stow, aged 28, in December 1762.
